It facilitates co-ordinated doing,
as in the co-ordinated flying of flocking starlings or swarming bees,
as in synchronised swimming … of fish,
and the waving of … Mexicans.
Now the purpose of describing the material realisation of sensing — sensing that emerges from material symbolic identities — is that it provides the basis for the emergence of social semiotic systems, as we will now see.
